The CIA's Botched Assassination Attempt of Michael Jackson
In 1984 the 24-year-old pop star was singing his hit “Billie Jean” for a Pepsi Cola commercial in Los Angeles when fireworks set his hair on fire. Was this an accident or an assassination gone wrong?
Political assassinations by the CIA are not uncommon. After the 1975 Church Committee hearings, chaired by Sen. Frank Church, the public became aware of decades of abusive and illegal acts secretly committed by the CIA. On November 23, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in full view of the public while riding in a presidential motorcade through Dealey Plaza in Dallas. Kennedy’s assassination, however, wasn’t included in what was meant to be a full investigation of the CIA’s covert and illegal acts. This continues to be a cover-up of gigantic proportions.
Many assassinations take place in full view of the public in order to fool us. At times our eyes and minds cannot comprehend a heinous act we witness. Instead, we allow mainstream media to tell us what happened.
If there was a list of botched assassination attempts—the most famous would be the one when they tried to kill Michael Jackson in front of an audience. The date was January 7, 1984 and the perfect scenario was Pepsi’s ‘New Generation’ campaign.
