Leslie Wexner was much more candid about the demons he possessed during his first major interview in 1985 (set-up, of course, by CIA cutout Hill & Knowlton). His father, Harry, knew he’d been born with an inner tummel, a churning, “molten” unformed, pricked by spiritual pins and needles. During his school years, he learned to be secretive. It took years of sitting in front of the mirror to perfect the open mouth fake laugh he used for photo shoots while building The Limited’s brand. A CIA cut-out. But, in high school, Wexner grinned only when necessary as did his well-heeled pals—some of whom would one day be outed for one crime or another.
